A Handcuffed Woman Squeezed Through a Police Car Window

Kendra Aney was sitting in the rear of a Muskegon Heights police cruiser with her hands cuffed behind her back when a small opening became a way out.

She had been taken into custody after officers identified her and discovered an outstanding parole violation warrant.

The cruiser was parked near a vehicle officers were investigating in Muskegon Heights, Michigan.

While their attention was on that vehicle, Aney squeezed through the partially open rear window.

It began on March 28, 2026, near Norton Avenue and Peck Street in Muskegon Heights.

A police officer on patrol noticed a vehicle parked near an abandoned business and approached the people inside.

Officers identified the driver, while the female passenger remained unidentified.

A second officer arrived with a fingerprint scanner.

The scan identified the woman as 38-year-old Kendra Aney.

Officers then discovered an outstanding parole violation warrant connected to Aney.

Aney was taken into custody and placed in handcuffs with her hands behind her back.

She was then secured in the rear seat of a Muskegon Heights police cruiser.

The officers continued examining the vehicle in which she had been a passenger.

Inside the cruiser, Aney remained restrained while the officers worked around the other vehicle.

The rear passenger window was partially open.

Aney moved through the opening despite having her hands cuffed behind her back.

Her head and upper body came through first.

She then worked her legs and feet through the window, lowered herself to the ground and got away from the cruiser on foot.

A bystander captured the escape on cellphone video.

The footage showed Aney moving away while the officers continued working around the vehicle.

The officers soon discovered that Aney was no longer inside the cruiser.

They searched the surrounding area but failed to find her immediately.

Later that same day, police received a report of a break-in on Peck Street.

Investigators came to believe Aney was connected to that incident.

She remained missing while officers searched for her.

The search continued over the following days.

On March 31, a member of the public provided information that led officers to an abandoned home in Muskegon Heights.

Police went to the property and found Aney inside.

Officers took Aney back into custody.

She was taken to the Muskegon County Jail.
